While the global average for Women in Parliament stands at 22.4%,Malaysia is at the 152nd place out of 185 countries with only a mere 10.4% representation.Conservative Islamic countries like South Sudan and Saudi Arabia have better Women representation in Parliament than Malaysia.
More disappointing, there only one Indian women representative in Dewan Rakyat, Kasthuriraani Patto. The voice of Malaysia's women are heard to heard as their are underrepresented. A survey shows that, female politicians are more likely to concentrate on issues that matter more to women such as daycare, gender equality, reproductive rights, flex time, elderly care and children’s welfare.
