A few days back, the big news in K-Town was regarding a possible first time union between Superstar Rajinikanth and ace director A.R.Murugadoss. Aascar Films was
reported to be funding this extravaganza. A section of the media was
also saying that this film would be a remake of Murugadoss' own Telugu
film Stalin, which he made with Chiranjeevi some years back.
When we inquired in this regard, we came to know that Aascar Films' V.
Ravichandran indeed had a meeting with the Superstar recently, and that
it was just a courtesy call. A.R.Murugadoss is already in Mumbai, busy
with work on his Akira, with Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. After Lingaa,
Rajini hasn't started work on any film yet, and everyone is eager to
know about his next move. So as of now, it is all a speculation but what
if such a project happens?
Rajini as we know is the biggest Superstar down South and Murugadoss is
a part of a very few directors with such an enviable strike rate all
across the country in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Both of them are among
the highest paid actors and directors respectively, and when they join
hands, only the biggest producer with really deep pockets, would be able
to afford such a project. And Aascar Films fits this description very
well. Their productions over the years such as 'I', Dasavatharam and
Anniyan have continuously raised the benchmarks for the Tamil industry
in many aspects.
With a penchant for hard-hitting, message based commercial cinema such
as Ramana, Thuppakki and Kaththi, A.R.Murugadoss would be the ideal man
to exploit the Superstar's larger than life image and mass reach. Just
imagining Rajini in a movie like Ramana would send goosebumps to every
cinema fan.
So a socially relevant big-budgeted blockbuster with Rajini and ARM,
and funded by Aascar Films would be like THE DREAM movie. Will the dream
bear fruition? Given the unpredictable ways of the industry, we have to
wait and watch how it all unfolds.
